Looking ahead to a 7th Steelers Super Bowl Ring.
Is this the start of a new Steelers Dystansy
I know the Steelers have yet to win their 6th Super Bowl ring, but with all the media coverage, I decided to do something different and look at the Steelers chances for a Super Bowl return. As long they can make the playoffs, they'll have a good chance to reach a Super Bowl. As long as Ben is playing at QB, they’ll be a playoff team. In theory the offense should improve next season, Holmes, Sweed, and Washington all 25 and younger should have their good years ahead of them. RB should be set with Parker & Mendenhall. Also TE is young and good, with Miller, and Spaeth. The key to the Steelers over the next five years, will be the level Hampton(31), Keisel(30), and Smith(32) can play at. They should be able to find a long term Farrior replacement, and if Troy can stay healthy, there could be more rings on the way. The secondary should have 5 good years in them, easy.
They also have a young coach, in Mike Tomlin, who should only get better as well. The key to the Steelers franchise has always been a solid front office, and ownership group. Their drafting has been good, and they always seem to find an impact player, thus even more help could be on the way.
All said the Steelers could make the Super Bowl and annual event over the next five year.

Ford City Girls Basketball Eye Section Title
Ford City’s 53-52 Monday Night win over Apollo Ridge easily earns the title of game of the year. Trust me I feel bad for Apollo, as it’s the second time this season they lost to Ford City by a basket. Ford City just knows how to beat the Lady Vikings. The girls in the purple and gold are 16-2 on the year. In the next few days Ford City will have a chance avenged their only two defeats. First they host Mt. Alvernia tomorrow, and then on Monday it’s the epic conference showdown, soon to be sold out game against Burrell. With a win over Burrell, they Lady Sabers should claim at least a share of the section title. Oh and by the way the FC boys currently sit on top of their section. It could be a banner year for the Sabers. Anyone know the last time both girls and boys from Ford City won a section title.

Boxing Matches in Kittanning on Saturday Night
Tonight on RSW, we'll be talking boxing tonight on Rizzo Sports Weekly. I’ll be speaking with a few local A.M.A. amateur boxers as they get ready for their weekend bouts. If you haven’t heard, Saturday night 7:00 pm Kittanning High School will host an A.M.A. Boxing Tournament. Tickets are on sell now for $10, as fundraising for the Wildcat Football Team. We’ll talk about the event and discuss some boxing strategy, so you don’t want to miss the show tonight. Also we’re back on cable after a week absence and I’m looking forward to hearing from you. See you tonight 7:30 on FLTV.

Plenty of Local Options for College Basketball Fans.
While Pitt’s big win over West Virginia grab most of the headlines, there are some other local teams making news. If you can’t make it to a sold out Pitt game, Robert Morris leads their conference, and Duquesne is a respectable 12-6. In Division II women’s IUP and Cal our both top ten teams heading into their big showdown Wednesday night. In men’s D2, I saw a nationally ranked Gannon team defeat a 14-2 IUP squad Saturday night. I think every local high school basketball player should make it point to get to a few IUP games each year. Division II offers a much more team oriented game, and in a smaller gym you can get feel for the quickness and movement of the game. Tickets are cheap, and if you basketball you should try making it to a local college game.

PIAA to Consider 6 Classifications
The PIAA is considering expanding to 6 classifications for high school football starting in the 2010-11 season. I’m sure if football goes to 6 classes then basketball, soccer, volleyball and the rest would add classes too. This would surely not be in the best interests of the local high schools. While it’s hard to say who would be where enrollment wise, it’s safe to say Freeport, Ford City, Kittanning, and West Shamokin would not all be in the same classification. I think it going to be a hard sell, since the change would add travel, and hurt gate receipts. Would the WPIAL spilt, would local schools create a new athletic district, or leave the PIAA all together. I don’t know, but I do know six classes would not be welcomed by local football fans.

Local Sports News & Notes
West Shamokin with a great defensive effort defeated Freeport 34-28 in Boys Basketball. The Wolves keep the pressure on Ford City who won again. The Sabers have won six in a row. Freeport now is two games behind Springdale for the last playoff spot. Elsewhere, the Kittanning Boys lost to Knoch, in a game they had to win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
In Pittsburgh sports, the Pens enter the All-Star break tied for 9th in the East with 50 points. The loss Tuesday to Carolina was really tough, since the Pens are battling with them and Florida for the 8th and final seed. Pitt basketball is getting ready for their big showdown against West Virginia on Sunday.

Kittanning Wrestling into Playoffs & FLTV Update
First off if you missed the show last night you can watch it at FamilyLifeTv.com. If you don’t have the internet, feel free to voice your opinions to Comcast. From what I understand, I’ll be back on cable next Tuesday to pre-game for the Super Bowl.
Kittanning’s Wrestling Team will face traditional power Burrell tonight at 6PM in the section playoffs. Should they defeat Burrell, they would wrestle at 8PM against the winner of Shady Side vs. Valley. Who ever emerges victorious will be section champs. Regardless of tonight results the Wildcats will wrestle next week in the

A lot to talk about on Tonight on RSW
First off in the event FLTV is not on cable this evening, you’ll be able to watch the show live on the internet at familylifetv.com. I hope everything will be resolved if not tonight, at least by next week. If you can’t watch the show live, Family Life has been putting recorded shows on their website, making them available to you at your convenience. If you have a question or comment for the show, you can email at rizzosports @ gmail.com. As for the show, the Steeler game of course will be on the agenda tonight. I also wanted to discuss Pitt Basketball. Speaking of basketball, we have to talk about the Ford City Sabers, who thanks to 5 game win streak, lead their section.

Midseason H.S. Basketball Report
Local high school basketball teams have just completed the first half of their section schedule and it’s complete chaos is boys Section 1 “AA” basketball. Ford City’s win over West Shamokin has given them a one game lead over the Wolves, Burrell, and Springdale. All indications are this one could go down to the final week with all four teams vying for the title. Freeport has been playing better too, and could easily jump back in the playoff race with a win over Burrell on Friday Night. In girls a 6-1 Ford City and 5-2 Apollo Ridge team look headed to the playoffs. At this point the only thing we know for certain is there will be some important games down the stretch.

Kittanning, Ford City Hockey Game in the Cards?
Last night on RSW, we discussed the possibility of Ford City and Kittanning facing off in an end of the season hockey game. I’m a strong advocate for both schools competing against each other in every sport. This would be a good showcase for both teams and their sport. There are many people, who have never been to a high school hockey game. The intrigue created by this game would bring in many first timers. Both teams also share the rink with Freeport, and neither have the YellowJackets on their schedule. The kids want it, the fans want it, so I hope the people involve will make it happen. My advice is, find a way to make these games a permanent fixture, and it will be win for everyone.

Steelers are one step closer to another Super Bowl.
Everything is setting up perfectly for the Steelers after a playoff win against San Diego. The Steelers will be at home when they take on Baltimore next week. All the key players for Pittsburgh are healthy. Including Willie Parker, who could and should be the difference. The Steelers’ defense is so good the offense doesn’t have to press or worry, because they know the game won’t get away. While people may say it’s tough to beat a team three times in a row, there is reason why the Ravens haven’t beaten the Steelers. There is still hope for an all Pennsylvania Super Bowl, as Philadelphia is alive in the NFC. So Sunday night at 6:30 it will be the Steelers vs. the Ravens with the winner going to the Super Bowl.

Steelers Look to Advance to AFC Championship Game.
The big sports story this weekend will be the Steelers hosting the Changers in the NFL Playoffs. If all things were equal the Steelers would have an advantage over San Diego Sunday, simply because of the weather conditions. With Tomlinson injured, it’s doubtful the Changers will be very effective offensively. Fourteen points will probably be enough for the Steelers. It might be interesting but I fully expect the Steelers to win, as they’re eying a Super Bowl.
I also wanted to clarify a point from yesterday’s column, where I said, Freeport and Ford City were scheduled to play Thursday night. The game was actually played on Wednesday night with Ford City squeaking out a 40-39 win. The FC Boys have another critical match-up tonight at Burrell.
Also the Kittanning Boys are now 6-6 overall and in a playoff hunt.

BCS Title Game Tonight.
There is no such thing as an NCAA Division 1-A Football National Champion. Tonight BCS Game is nothing more than game between two teams that a bunch of biased media people like best. Even if you believe Oklahoma or Florida would win a playoff, you can’t logically determine that either is ahead of USC or Utah. I say go back to the old bowl system or go to a playoff. I’m fine with the old system; I just don’t like incorrectly labeling a “national champion”. After all of that, I like Oklahoma tonight. Also tonight there are few rescheduled high school basketball games, including a key boy’s game between Freeport and Ford City.

New YMCA Director Gary Miller on RSW tonight.
It’s going to be a very interesting night as new YMCA director Gary Millar joins me as the guest at 7:30. It will be a good chance for the community to hear from him, and remember you’re welcome to call in with your questions. I’m obviously planning on asking him his short term and long term goals for YMCA. We’ll also discuss the different programs currently going on at the Y. It should be a very appealing show for people of all ages in local community. Also I’ll my new Armstrong County Basketball Rankings out, and trust me, there are some major changes. I looking forward to hearing from you tonight on Family Life TV.

Kittanning vs Ford City: Boys Basketball Tonight
A lot of people probably think Ford City is favored to win tonight’s basketball game against rival Kittanning. However the Sabers are actually the team with the most to prove. Kittanning won last year’s boy games, so Ford City has pressure to win on their home floor. The Sabers have lost three out of their last four, including and an unexpected section lost at Apollo Ridge. Their last game, a tournament lost to St. Joe’s, was especially tough, since two week ago they beat St Joe’s by 30. Ford City (6-4) has only beat two WPIAL “AA” teams, and has a lot to prove against a 4-6 Kittanning squad. The Wildcats played well in at a recent tournament defeating Burrell. A win tonight will be a big boost to either team, and the game should be very exciting.
If you can't make the game, I'm covering it for WTYM 1380am, and it will air on Saturday morning.
